The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a broad mandate to promote job creation, economic growth, sustainable development, and improved standards of living. It has crosscutting responsibilities in the areas of trade, technology, entrepreneurship, economic development, environmental stewardship and statistical research and analysis. It also houses the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS).

President’s Environmental Youth Award
This award honors a wide variety of projects developed by young individuals, school classes (kindergarten through high school), summer camps, public interest groups, and youth organizations to promote environmental awareness. Applicants from all 50 states and U.S. territories are eligible to compete for a regional certificate of special recognition and a national Presidential award.

- The Urban Air Toxics Outreach and Education initiative has helped to support community-based programs, training programs, funding, and partnerships.
Clearinghouses and Technical Assistance
- The National Environmental Education Training Program helps to support environmental training for teachers and other educational professionals.
